"The Section for Clinical Research IT" (SKFIT) is a joint section of the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein and the University of Lübeck (UzL), affiliated with the Institute for Medical Biometry and Statistics (IBMS). SKFIT cooperates closely with the Institute for Medical Informatics (IMI).

In compliance with applicable data protection and data security regulations, a hospital-integrated clinical research IT infrastructure is provided. To this end, SKFIT cooperates with other institutions of the university or the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, such as UKSH IT Service Gesellschaft mbH (UKSH ITSG) and the IT Service Center (ITSC).

Conducting research in the field of medical data science, machine learning-based multimodal data analyses are conducted on medical data, partially in collaboration with the DFKI and the Fraunhofer IMTE.

SKFIT does not operate its own computing or network infrastructure but instead makes use of the services provided by the two institutions mentioned above, depending on the nature of the research applications. UKSH ITSG and the ITSC are responsible for hosting the software systems.
