ABIDE_MI - Aligning Biobanking and DIC Efficiently

This project aims to enable the Data Integration Centers (DIZ) of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) to support the research use of biosamples in combination with data from routine healthcare, including feasibility queries via the future MII-ZARS. This refers to the Central Application and Registry Office of the MII for the submission, management, and registration of data use applications. The project takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining the achievements and experiences of the MII, the German Biobank Node (GBN) as part of the European BBMRI-ERIC biobank network, and the biobanks of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA) into a sustainable health IT infrastructure. This infrastructure will be connected both to the local MII-DIZ and at the national level to a central portal that will be fully integrated into the planned MII-ZARS. The project will enable future close collaboration between biobanks and DIZ at 24 locations of German university medicine—on technical, regulatory, and governance levels.
Work packages
Work packages WP1–WP4 and WP7 involve the creation of the above-mentioned architecture. The University of Lübeck (UzL) is involved in the following work packages:
-
WP1: "FHIR Datastore" and
-
WP2: "Feasibility Query Interface".
Work packages WP5 and WP6 focus on the practical implementation at the respective sites:
-
WP5: "Decentral Data Store Provisioning at Participating Sites"
-
WP6: "Integrating Organizational Structures at Participating Sites"
The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) with its HiGHmed Data Integration Center (DIZ), as well as the two universities in Lübeck (UzL) and Kiel (CAU) with their respective biobank facilities, are involved in WP5 and WP6.
